I have made Six table lamps using various hardwood species. To begin with I wanted to make a series of objects that had the appearance of having been turned on a lathe. Without a lathe in my workshop I started to think about ways that I could create this effect using the tools I had. This meant I was able to explore the possibilities that this technical limitation presented – the results of this playful, explorative process are evocative of chess-pieces or mechanical parts as well as sculptural formalism and modernism.
