Parham Ghalamdar and Kaveh Soory

Medium: Cassette Tape

Size: 102 x 64 x 13mm

“Post-Pandemic Hungover” is a collaborative multi-media project by Kaveh Soory and Parham Ghalamdar to stage and perform the sounds of existentialist crises. The sounds are recorded in four corners of the MCR including the Huddersfield Road, Heaton Park, Manchester Airport JetParks, Stockport Air Raid Shelters, Prime Pizza Ltd (New Moston), and the artists’ private studios during the National Lockdown and the post-lockdown abnormalities.

The sounds presented articulate the experience of selected places in Manchester through the convergence of sound, site, and performance. The result is an immersive and affective experience of the spaces, protocols, and situations encompassing the stimulating of the unique urban Manchester. Together with the field recordings are layers of live performance using custom-built instrumentation to produce a unique series of characters, musical cycles, noises, and reverberations phenomena. The application of tension and pressure upon the assorted instruments recalls the distressing state of highly specialized infrastructure found within the perimeters of MCR spaces such as the Stockport Air Raid Shelter and Manchester Airport JetParks. Such spaces comprise many types and volumes of prefabricated space. In dialogue with this are the unique spaces used to record the instrumental performance. By merging different spaces “Post-Pandemic Hungover” brings into focus various industrial resonances, spatial characteristics, timbres of metal and concrete, and sonic artifacts produced by hard and permeable materials and surfaces.
