Artist: Elizabeth Wewiora

Size: 12 x 16 inches mounted on 3mm PVC.

Lumens of Paradise is a limited edition series of ten individual contact photograms, utilising found flora and materials in and around the Paradise Works building and outdoor area. The items have been foraged alongside fellow studio holders and represent an echo of our surroundings both past and present.

Because each print is exposed to sunlight at a different angle, length of time and time of day, each image produces different colours, tones and texture. The prints are produced using out of date photographic paper and no additional chemicals to reduce environmental impact. Each lumen print has been scanned and printed to offer two limited editions, each presented alongside an artist note, which lists the dates of the foraging and items sourced to each individual print.

Artist Biography

Liz Wewiora is a visual artist, producer and educator. Regardless of which creative hat she is wearing, she actively seeks out to produce projects, which support collaboration, and promote social or environmental change. Most of her work takes place outside of the gallery, working on residency projects, across health, social housing, justice, learning, heritage and environmental settings.

She works mostly in photography and video, but is interested in the expanded notions of what photography can be, often playing with traditional or alternative materials to produce work. She has worked on projects with organisations including Museum of Liverpool, University of Reading, Open Eye Gallery, CCA Glasgow, 42nd Street, QUAD and the AA2A residency (University of Chester).
