Sammy Lai
Sammy Lai (b.1996) is a Hong Kong-born visual artist based in Manchester, UK. Working primarily with painting and installation, he explores the layered relationships between urban environments, nature, and emotion. His compositions pulse with rhythm, movement, and visual complexity, reflecting his belief that abundance fosters a sense of safety and wholeness. A graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, UAL (BA Hons) and Hong Kong Baptist University (MA, UGC Scholarship), Lai draws from everyday observations, cultural memory, and spatial histories to construct immersive environments. Through fragmented, process-led methods, he embraces chaos as a path to harmony, while inviting viewers to reconsider their connection to place, community, and the unseen narratives woven into their surroundings. In 2025, Lai became an Associate Member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (AMAFA). Through both solo and collaborative projects, his practice seeks to deepen the dialogue between art and place, contributing meaningfully to artist-led communities in the UK and beyond.
